Noise influence on correlated activities in a modular neuronal network: From synapses to functional connectivity

In this work we propose taking noise into account when modeling the neuronal activity in a correlation-based type network. Volume transmission effects on connectivity are considered. As a result, an individual module can be set in an "activated" state via noise produced by the remaining modules. The stochastic approach could provide a new insight into the relation between functional and anatomical connectivity.

Coincidental loss of bacterial virulence in multi-enemy microbial communities.

The coincidental virulence evolution hypothesis suggests that outside-host selection, such as predation, parasitism and resource competition can indirectly affect the virulence of environmentally-growing bacterial pathogens. While there are some examples of coincidental environmental selection for virulence, it is also possible that the resource acquisition and enemy defence is selecting against it. Abstract Identifiability analysis enables the quantification of the number of model parameters that can be assessed by calibration with respect to a data set. Such a methodology is based on the appraisal of sensitivity coefficients of the model parameters by means of Monte Carlo runs.
